If you own an older home, your original windows have historical and architectural significance and were designed as an integral, permanent component of your home. Vintage wood, steel, even aluminum and jalousie style windows can be rehabilitated and retained.
The replacement window industry will tell you that your old wood or metal windows cannot be restored and must be replaced. That is simply not true. Most vintage windows can be repaired and/or restored to a condition that will make them serviceable and attractive for the life of the structure.
Our advice is to obtain an opinion from someone who is not 100% interested in selling a new product. If your original windows are truly beyond repair, then yes, you are probably going to be in the market for a replacement window. There are many options and we can offer advice from our experienced perspective.
